ONE VOLUNTEER SUPPORT WORKER'S EXPERIENCE

“I wanted to volunteer for Bristol Rape Crisis as I deeply believe in the cause.  I have gained as much, if not more, than I have given.

Volunteering at Bristol rape crisis is a two way process, I feel I have learnt so much, not just around sexual violence, but about myself. The volunteer support worker training was life changing for me.

Just being part an organisation of such amazing women has been so fantastic. I feel empowered and inspired to help other women.

Taking that very first phone call was an absolute honour.  Knowing that for one woman I was able to listen when she needed someone to.

As women I feel we are best qualified and equipped to help other women.  Which is why I think it is great we are an organisation run by women for women.

I would recommend Bristol Rape Crisis as a service to anyone.

I have had personal experiences around sexual violence, so I know what a difference we can make to women’s lives, just by being there to listen and believe.

We must remember all those women who go through an entire lifetime carrying the pain and hurt that comes from experiencing sexual violence, never able to tell another soul.  I do not think we can say we have all the answers, or solutions, but we can be there to simply listen and support; for me that is an honour.”
